Passengers and the community have been given a glimpse of what the upgraded station will look like before construction begins later this month, with a second platform and track, accessible pedestrian overpass and an expanded station forecourt the key features.

Aspects of the region’s water catchments have guided the design of the forecourt landscaping, with rain gardens to provide a link to the local area for passengers.

The expanded forecourt will also feature a new drop-off zone and bike storage, providing more options for passengers to access the station.

Car parking at the station will be increased to meet the needs of the growing community, with 90 new car park spaces and 120 current gravel spaces to be sealed as part of the upgrade.

The new accessible pedestrian overpass will include lifts and ramps to connect the two platforms, and a new second platform and track will help train services recover more quickly from delays and allow more services to be extended to and from Waurn Ponds Station, as part of the first stage of the $160 million investment in the Geelong Line.

Community feedback has been incorporated into the designs, with the addition of safer pedestrian access through the car park and increased CCTV and lighting to help provide better security.

Construction on the upgrade to Waurn Ponds Station is due for completion late 2021.

Planning work, including site investigations, is also underway for the South Geelong to Waurn Ponds Duplication, a State and Federal Government commitment to upgrade the line to deliver more frequent train services.
