Nine level crossings on the Warrnambool Line are now safer for both passengers and motorists following the completion of the latest upgrades in the state’s south-west.

Local communities and passengers are now benefiting from the five most recent level crossing upgrades at Coyles Road in Terang, Oswells Road in Boorcan, Buckley South Road in Buckley, Waltons Road in Buckley and Hunts Road in Moriac, with works on the final three due for completion in the coming months.

Construction continues under modified working conditions in line with strict protocols to ensure the protection of our workers and the community so that these important upgrades can be completed safely.

These recent works follow the level crossing upgrades that were completed earlier in the year at Ayreys Reserve Road in Birregurra, Swan Marsh - Stonyford Road in Swan Marsh, Deans Creek Road in Colac and Station Road in Garvoc.

The level crossings have been upgraded to full protection and now feature boom gates, lights, bells and improved train detection technology.

Construction on the rest of the Warrnambool Line Upgrade will soon be underway, including a crossing loop at Boorcan and signalling upgrades between Warrnambool and Waurn Ponds which will result in better reliability for passengers along the line and an additional weekday return service for passengers on the line.

The Warrnambool Line Upgrade is part of the Australian and Victorian governments’ investment of more than $2 billion in Regional Rail Revival, which is upgrading every passenger rail line in the state and creating more than 1,000 jobs.
