Rockbank Station’s existing platforms will soon be demolished to make way for two new, longer platforms as part of a major station rebuild.
During a two-week works blitz on the Ballarat line from Monday 24 June to Sunday 7 July, while trains are not running on the line, work will begin to demolish the two platforms and start rebuilding major structures at the station.
From Monday 8 July Rockbank Station will be out of service and trains will not stop to drop off or pick up passengers until late August.
Part of the station’s new car park will be open, where Rockbank passengers can park to catch a shuttle bus every 20 minutes to and from Caroline Springs Station to connect with train services towards Melbourne and Ballarat. Taxis will be available for passengers as necessary.
The new station will feature new platforms, a car park with 350 spaces, a pedestrian overpass with lifts, ramps and stairs, platform seating and canopies, myki facilities, lighting and CCTV.
Rockbank passengers are asked to allow an extra 45 minutes travel time while coaches replace trains from 24 June to 7 July, and an extra 15 minutes from 8 July.
A temporary timetable will be available and passengers can plan their journey at the V/Line website or by calling 1800 800 007.
The half-a-billion-dollar Ballarat Line Upgrade is now well-advanced and will enable more frequent and reliable services for communities along the line, including Rockbank.
More than 885,000 hours have been worked on the project so far, with crews laying 26 kilometres of track, installing more than 40,000 concrete sleepers and 100,000 tonnes of ballast.
