Better train services are on the horizon for Bairnsdale passengers, with a contractor appointed to design and build the new rail bridge over the Avon River in Stratford.

CPB Contractors has been awarded the contract to design and build the new bridge, which is being delivered as part of the Gippsland Line Upgrade, with construction set to begin later this year.

The new bridge will allow trains to travel at up to 90km/h, an increase from the current 10km/h speed limit.

The new bridge will deliver improved journeys for Bairnsdale line passengers and will ensure services are fit for the present and the future.

Trains will continue to run on the existing bridge until 2021 when the new bridge is completed.

CPB Contractors will work closely with GROW Gippsland to identify opportunities to boost the local economy through procurement and employment opportunities for Gippsland region.
