Major construction is continuing on the new Avon River rail bridge to allow trains to travel at up to 90km/h and improve reliability on the Gippsland Line. Thank you for your ongoing patience while this important work is underway.
Night and weekend works – June 2020 to late 2020
As construction progresses, extended working hours will at times be required to enable the completion of critical works.
This will include occasional night works from 5pm to 3am and works on Sundays from 7am to 5pm.
- Sunday 27 September
What we are doing
Construction to build the new bridge is well advanced, with work on the superstructure underway.
Noisier construction activities such as piling works won’t continue past 9pm.
Nearby residents will be notified in advance of any planned overnight or Sunday works.
What to be aware of
- Construction noise taking place during the night and on Sundays
- Pile driving works continuing up to 9pm
- Additional lighting on site at night – this will be directed away from residential properties
- Vehicles, machinery and workers on site and moving around the site compounds.
Noise will be minimised as much as possible at all times.
Health and safety
The health and safety of our workers and the community is our key priority and we have measures in place to protect the safety of our construction workforce, including temperature screening, additional protective equipment including masks, daily health screening of workers, enhanced cleaning, staggered shifts and break times, and physical distancing.
Our workforce numbers across Victoria’s Big Build have already been significantly reduced to support directions from the Chief Health Officer, and we are continuing to manage the number of staff and visitors attending our worksites.
