Avon River Bridge Upgrade

Avon River Bridge Upgrade

Major construction is continuing on the new Avon River rail bridge to allow trains to travel at up to 90km/h and improve reliability on the Gippsland Line.

Extended work hours – June 2020 to late 2020

Thank you for your ongoing patience while this important work is underway.

What we are doing

Work to build the superstructure of the new bridge is underway, with the bridge’s beams currently being lifted into place.

As construction progresses, extended working hours will be required from time to time to enable the completion of critical works such as concrete pours.

There may be times when construction needs to start at 6am and finish at 6pm Monday to Saturdays, up to an hour earlier and an hour later than usual.

Usual working hours on site are between 7am and 5pm, Monday to Saturday.

What to be aware of

  • Construction noise commencing earlier and finishing later
  • Vehicles, machinery and workers on site and moving around the site compounds
  • Works will be away from residential properties.

Health and safety

The health and safety of our workers and the community is our key priority as we continue to deliver the new bridge over the Avon River, as is supporting physical distancing measures in line with current health advice.

We have strict protocols in place to protect the safety of our construction workforce, including enhanced industrial cleaning arrangements, provision of personal protective equipment and measures to reduce staff contact, including staggered shifts.
