Coaches will replace Ballarat, Ararat and Maryborough line services for all or part of the journey from 10pm Sunday 27 December to Saturday 30 January. To plan your journey visit the V/Line website or call 1800 800 007.
The final phase of the Ballarat Line Upgrade will soon get underway to carry out commissioning, critical safety testing and driver training on the Ballarat Line. Thanks for your patience while this important work is underway.
24-hour works – Sunday 27 December 2020 to Saturday 30 January 2021
What we are doing
We’re completing track duplication on the Ballan passing loop, getting the new signalling system ready for new services, preparing to open the second platform at Ballan Station and removing the Bungaree passing loop.
Works will include:
- laying rail track including ballast and sleepers, rail tamping and welding
- earthworks and drainage installation along the rail corridor
- signalling installation and commissioning.
The majority of these works will take place during the day and night from 8pm Sunday 27 December 2020 until 5pm Friday 15 January 2021. Further works, including safety testing and driver training will be occurring during the day and night until 5pm Saturday 30 January 2021.
There will be temporary road closures during this period, with dates subject to change:
- Torpys Road, Bungaree (28 – 29 December)
- Geelong-Ballan Road, Ballan (28 December – 1 January)
- Old Geelong Road, Ballan (1 – 4 January)
Please allow extra travel time and follow traffic management signage for detours.
What to be aware of
There will be an increase in construction works, including noise, dust and additional lighting.
There will be machinery, heavy vehicles and workers within the rail corridor, at level crossings and within the station precinct.
Please observe all safety signage and follow the direction of traffic management staff.
Test trains to facilitate driver training and safety testing will run along the line so always obey the warning signs at level crossings and stay safe around trains.
We use a range of measures to minimise dust from construction activities, including placing dust monitors in and around the construction site, staging works to minimise exposed areas and the use of water carts to wet down work areas.
Noise and vibration
To minimise potential noise and vibration impacts we monitor noise and vibration levels to make sure they are within the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) noise control guidelines.
Where possible, lighting will be directed away from residences and noise from the temporary lights will be monitored.
Plan your journey
Coaches will replace trains on sections of the Ballarat, Ararat and Maryborough lines from Monday 28 December until Saturday 30 January while we carry out work on the line.
