Services return after Ballarat Line works
Posted: 03 Dec 2019
Services have returned to the Ballarat Line following a 23-day construction blitz as part of the half-a-billion dollar Ballarat Line Upgrade.
We thank passengers for their patience over the past three weeks, while hundreds of crew members have worked around the clock on construction, signalling commissioning, consolidation of the new track and driver training.
New weekday peak services between Melton and Southern Cross Station have been introduced and a new station was opened at Cobblebank, giving people more frequent services and better travel options.
Trains are now using the 18km of duplicated track between Deer Park West and Melton, which will help boost reliability for services along the entire line.
The half-a-billion-dollar Ballarat Line Upgrade will enable more peak services and trains every 40 minutes off-peak.
The project is delivering more comfortable, accessible stations and better reliability for passengers along the line.
A period of commissioning, safety testing and driver training will follow next year before the introduction of more new services in 2020.
