Making progress on Avon River bridge
Posted: 25 Sep 2018
A new rail bridge over the Avon River is closer than ever, with work progressing on a number of fronts.
The planning process is well underway, with a draft Planning Scheme Amendment on display from today.
Work to select a contractor or consortium to build the new rail bridge is also well advanced, with the Request for Proposal (RFP) phase expected to begin next month.
We are continuing with site investigations around the Avon River in Stratford, to inform the design of the new bridge.
Heritage Victoria has recommended the Avon River bridge be included as a Registered Place on the Victorian Heritage Register.
Members of the public can make a submission on the bridge’s historical significance at heritagecouncil.vic.gov.au as part of the public submissions process, which will close on 19 November.
The Victorian Heritage Council will make a final decision on the nomination at its meeting on 6 December.
