Progress on the Ballarat Line Upgrade
Posted: 28 Aug 2018
The Ballarat line reopened to passengers on Monday 27 August following a major weekend of works on the Ballarat Line Upgrade.
While trains were not running, a team of 150 worked around the clock, continuing with the Rockbank Station rebuild, as well as working to rebuild a level crossing in Rockbank so that it is ready for a second track.
Cranes were used to lift beams into place for the new Toolern Creek rail bridge, while new sleepers and rail were laid in Rockbank and Melton.
Thanks to all Ballarat line passengers for their patience while we continue with these critical works.
The Ballarat Line Upgrade will transform the state’s second busiest regional train line. It will enable much needed extra services in the morning and afternoon peak periods, plus a train every 40 minutes off-peak for growing communities along the line.
