Overpasses installed at Rockbank and Cobblebank
Posted: 20 Mar 2019
Passengers on the Ballarat line have a reason to look up from their smartphones this week, following the installation of pedestrian overpasses at Rockbank and Cobblebank stations.
The overpasses were assembled on-site and dropped into place with the help of a crane, allowing us to install them overnight and avoid any impacts or disruptions to passengers.
The new overpasses will allow better accessibility at both stations and will feature lifts, ramps and stairs to make moving between platforms easy for people of all abilities and with prams.
The rebuilt Rockbank Station and new Cobblebank Station will cater for the booming population in Melbourne’s outer west.
Rockbank’s population is expected to grow from around 1,300 to around 22,000 by 2050, while the population of Cobblebank and neighbouring Strathtulloh is expected to grow to around 62,000 by 2050.
More than 730,000 hours have been completed on the Ballarat Line Upgrade, which will be complete by the end of the year.
