Work underway on the Ballarat Line Upgrade

Passengers on the Ballarat line are asked to plan ahead next month, as a three-day works blitz gets underway on the half-a-billion-dollar Ballarat Line Upgrade.

Coaches will replace trains for the entire journey between Wendouree, Ballarat and Southern Cross Station from Saturday 6 October to Monday 8 October, with services returning to normal on Tuesday 9 October.

Trains will continue to run from Maryborough and Ararat, connecting with coaches between Ballarat and Southern Cross Station.

While trains are not running, more than 200 crew members will be working around the clock on the Rockbank Station rebuild, the new stabling at Maddingley, and laying new tracks, including over the Toolern Creek bridge.

Preparation will kick off for upgrades at Ballan Station, where a second platform and pedestrian overpass will be built, and for construction to start on the 4.5km passing loop at Millbrook.

Workers have clocked up more than 400,000 hours of labour so far on the project, which is set to deliver more frequent and reliable services for passengers.

Passengers can plan their journey at the V/Line website or by calling 1800 800 007. Please allow an extra 45 minutes travel time. You can also find out more about works happening near you.
