Ballarat Line Upgrade works to ramp up in December
Posted: 03 Dec 2018
Ballarat line passengers are being asked to plan ahead from this weekend as a nine-day construction blitz gets underway.
Coaches will replace trains for some or all of the journey for Ballarat, Ararat and Maryborough passengers travelling to or from Southern Cross Station as work crews make progress on the project including:
- Putting the finishing touches on Maddingley stabling
- Making changes to existing tracks at Millbrook and Ballan to prepare for construction of new passing loops
- More work on upgrades to Rockbank, Ballan and Bacchus Marsh stations.
When the upgrade is complete in late 2019 passengers will have modern, accessible stations and more frequent and reliable services.
Coaches will replace trains for the entire journey between Ararat and Southern Cross Station on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 December while construction crews work on the rail line.
From Monday 10 December to Sunday 16 December coaches will replace trains between Wendouree/Ballarat and Southern Cross Station.
Maryborough trains will continue to run to and from Ballarat, connecting with coaches to and from Southern Cross.
Passengers are asked to allow an extra 45 minutes travel time and to plan their journey at the V/Line website or by calling 1800 800 007.
A temporary timetable is available online and at staffed V/Line stations.
